YouTube starts supporting HTML5 video players

YouTube have just announced some pretty big news, this news is that they will begin supporting HTML5 video players.

This news is especially important to iPhone owners as their browser does not support Adobe’s Flash player, the HTML5 support means that “it frees users from the need to use proprietary plug-ins like Flash player or Microsoft’s Silverlight by using a simple bit of code to render video”.

Chances are that now YouTube has adopted this HTML5 standard the rest of the web will follow suit, however at the moment for people wishing to experience HTML5 they will have to check out Test Tube and use “either Chrome, Safari or the Chrome frame in IE”.
