YouTube Leanback: Beta keeps it simple

YouTube have just announced Leanback an online TV service that gives users the full functionality of the site without needing the cursor click to navigate. Just by using the keyboard the entire YouTube catalogue can be browsed.

Spencer Dalziel of The is reporting that only the arrow and enter keys are needed to browse the sites videos. The down key allows the user to go through the viewing options via a carousel of related videos, or use the broader categories such as Auto’s, comedy etc.

A search bar can be brought up to search for a particular video the user wants to watch, and after pressing the enter key the playback menu allows for the fast-forward, rewind, pause and skip of the videos. Leanback is still in public beta, and will be a feature of the forthcoming Google TV.

On start up the interface automatically starts playing content based on the users own preferences, and allows users to link to their Facebook account. Click here for the full article.
