Xperia Z Ultra Tablet may not release in US, UK

Sony is continuing with their Xperia Tablet bandwagon in 2014 and we have some surprising news to bring you now. The company has just announced a tablet version of the Xperia Z Ultra, a device that is currently on the market in a smartphone form factor.

Now though, Sony has decided that the Xperia Tablet Z is going to have a companion. While this sounds great at first, excitement may turn to disappointment when we tell you that at the moment there are no plans to release the Xperia Z Ultra tablet outside of Japan.

Just to remind you, the Xperia Z Ultra has a staggering 6.44-inch display screen with a resolution of 1920×1080. It was already very large for a smartphone by normal standards and now it seems that Sony may be thinking along the same lines.

The Xperia Z Ultra tablet version is going to run on the same specs as the phone, meaning that it will have a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as the OS.

You can even use pencils with this tablet.

We’re a little surprised to see that this won’t be upgraded to Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box, especially with Sony sending out a press release and announcing this as a new product on the market – a new product with Jelly Bean?

Either way, we would love to see this released outside of Japan. The Xperia Z Ultra runs like a dream and arguably putting devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 to shame in a speed test.

Let’s hope that the decision to change a phone into a tablet works out for Sony. If it does, there’s obviously a higher chance that we will see a release in these shores.
