Xbox One Kinect distance requirements reduced

Microsoft (it would appear) has decided to tweak the minimum distance required for the new Kinect 2.0 for the Xbox One. This is extremely important news for people who do not have the luxury of living in an apartment with a large living area. The first incarnation of the Kinect on the Xbox 360 had a minimum requirement approximately ranging 6 to 8ft from the device. This of course is not a problem if you live in an average middle-class family home, but not so good if you are living in modest housing arrangements, which could be an obstacle in using the product. However, the developers of the Kinect 2.0 have decided to reduce the minimum distance required to around 4.6 feet or 1.4 meters.

The reduction in the minimum distance required for the Kinect 2.0 to adequately function is an attempt to pre-emptively avoid criticism from Xbox One users or hopefully (for Microsoft) tip the balance in making the consumer buy their product. Xbox One is trying to win the console wars between itself and the soon to be released PS4 and it is attempting to make the Xbox One appealing to the largest amount of people possible in this highly competitive market.

This leaked document appears to be the Brazilian version of the console manual. Furthermore, the manual also reveals how to get the Xbox One in full and working order including running the machine on the minimum of a 720p or higher HD television screen, not standing the console upright, and connecting to the internet.

Are you a fan of the Kinect? Do you have a modest apartment which previously excluded you from purchasing the Kinect and are now pleased that your needs will be accommodated? Will this news make you buy an Xbox One instead of the PS4? Checkout what we have previously written on the Kinect here.
