Xbox One July update adds internal feature

We have some good news for Xbox One owners now. Microsoft are still putting the finishing touches on the highly anticipated Xbox One July update, but we can reveal that one new feature has arrived early thanks to a sneaky update that Microsoft has introduced internally.

Now, we can tell you that Xbox One owners will have the option of paying for any free demo that they try out. Previously, with free Xbox One demos you had to head to the Marketplace to buy the game and start a second download.

However, Microsoft has given the good news to say that a developmental update behind the scenes has brought a new feature allowing users to play the demo and buy the full game there and then with no other downloads necessary.

It’s a feature that was available on Xbox 360 and it’s great to see that it’s now available without fanfare on Xbox One too. Chris Charla is the boss of ID@Xbox and he confirmed this feature in a recent interview with Eurogamer:

“In the same way that we update the Xbox One OS every month, they update the development system every month — or regularly, anyway. So that’s something that we recently turned on. I don’t think we’ve seen any ID@Xbox games yet that have shipped with trials, but we may well in the future. It’s something that’s open to everybody.”

As far as we’re aware, this feature isn’t available on PS4 with every game. However the option of having every single Xbox One demo unlockable to a free version is very convenient to users.

It’s also nice that these kinds of updates can happen in the background – remember that the main Xbox One software update for July will be coming next week, so it gets better.
