Over the last couple of months we have seen various rumors surrounding the next Xbox and PlayStation consoles. We recently had some next generation Xbox design concepts for you, which followed speculation that Microsoft could be bringing out two new models of the next console. Now we have news that the Xbox 720 console design could be made by Samsung.
The current Xbox 360 has many components that are made by other companies that are basically off the shelf. According Gadgehit this could have something to do with the dreaded red ring of death that affected the console in the early days. This problem went onto cause Microsoft to lose around a billion dollars in replacement consoles.
So with this in mind it makes sense for Microsoft to use another electronic company to manufacture the next Xbox console. This will mean any hardware failure the other company would be to blame. Microsoft has already announced it has partnered with Samsung to produce the new Microsoft Surface 2.0.
So as the two companies are already working together there is nothing stopping them to do the same for the next Xbox console. Microsoft may prefer to keep everything in house though as it may not want another company getting to close to plans for its flagship product.
But it could prove to be a good idea and help the Xbox 720 or whatever its going to be called be more reliable from the off. What do you think would it be a good idea for Microsoft to outsource production of its next home gaming console?
