Xbox 720 alpha console shows up on Ebay again

While Sony are attracting all of the headlines with their expected PS4 reveal on February 20, Microsoft are still expected themselves to debut the next-generation Xbox at E3 2013 or at a separate event prior to the event this Summer. It is a known fact that the new Xbox hardware has been known as Durango internally and this week we are again seeing evidence that some individuals are willing to auction off these elusive developer kits for big sums of money on places like Ebay.

It turns out that the person who is selling such an item has already successfully sold another Durango kit in the past, for a whopping $20,000. That suggests that the hardware is the real deal and if you consider yourself a games collector and want a piece of pre-release equipment, now maybe your chance to start digging into those savings.

At the time of writing, the Durango Xbox 720 alpha console bid is live on Ebay, with 7 days left to go on the auction. So far there has been 31 bids and the current asking price already stands at over $20,000. It looks like clued-up gaming enthusiasts have spotted the fact that he’s already sold a Durango kit in the past and there’s no chance of this being any kind of scam.

Specs listed in the item description reference an alpha console with an 8-core 64-bit CPU, a 500GB hard drive, 1.6Ghz processor speed and wait for it, 8GB of RAM. The hardware is located in Australia, with the seller willing to ship worldwide, free of charge once the auction is over.

Unfortunately, there isn’t an updated picture along with the auction. The image you see above is taken from the previous auction and shows a glimpse of the Durango alpha interface you’ll see when you boot up the tower. It’s also interesting to note that the seller states that software is included – so the winning bidder should have some exclusive next-gen games to test out before anyone else – exciting stuff.

Do you have $30,000 spare to bid on an early Xbox 720? We have a feeling that it may even go up to $50,000 when the deadline is almost up, judging on the rate of high money bids so far.
