Windows 8 release date in 2012 confirmed by Microsoft, preview at D9 2011

We have some great news all around for Windows fans now, as Microsoft has finally confirmed the existance of Windows 8 as their next operating system release after Windows 7. We all knew it was coming thanks to media leaks, but it’s nice to hear the words come out of Steve Ballmer’s mouth.

And that is exactly what happened when he was speaking at a Microsoft Developer Forum in Tokyo, Japan. The CEO confirmed that Windows 8 would be available at some point next year, and also confirmed the interesting news that it would come in a ‘variety of form factors’.

Below is the key statement from him which contains the juicy information about Windows 8. You can read his comments in full here.

“As we look forward to the next generation of Windows systems, which will come out next year, there’s a whole lot more coming. Expect to hear a lot about Windows 8 (through the year). Windows 8 slates, tablets, PCs, a variety of different form factors.”

So there we have it, Windows 8 practically confirmed for a 2012 release – what are your thoughts on this? On another positive note, it looks like we may even see Windows 8 in action for the very first time at the upcoming All Things Digital D9 2011 event, which runs from May 31-June 2nd, according to UberGizmo.

Are you excited about Windows 8, or have you already lost faith in Microsoft after Windows 7?
