Will the launch of the iPad 2 have a major impact on competitors?

We are only a couple of days away now for the release of the iPad 2 and the device is expected to sell huge numbers. But with Apple getting the device onto shelves soon after it was announced, what will this mean for its rivals?

According to an article over at AppleInsider by Josh Ong, a Wall Street analyst has predicted the Apple iPad 2 could cause “a bubble burst” for its rivals. The analyst from J.P. Morgan has said to investors that Apple’s rivals may have too high build plans for this year.

The analyst feels that because of the improvements made to the new iPad, other manufacturers could find it harder with their first generation tablets to catch up. The analyst Mark Moskowitz predicts companies will build around 65.1 million devices this year. Last year estimates of around 47.9 million tablets were sold, and this year in the worst case scenario these companies may find themselves with a 51% oversupply.

Apple is still expected to at least maintain its share in the market, and Moskowitz feels they could achieve almost a 100% sales increase with over 29 million iPads sold this year. He realizes that not everyone wants an Apple product, but could be uninspired with what other manufacturers have to offer.

Pricing will be a massive thing if rivals want to be successful, if they can keep their tablets around the same price of the iPad or even cheaper may help them pick up some good sales figures. What do you think will other tablets prove to be successful?
