Whatsapp unveils free backups on Android, iOS not included

Some great news to bring to all Android owners now, as Whatsapp has just announced a new partnership with Google, which will soon offer free backups when using Google Drive.

If you are someone who regularly gets through a lot of data when using Whatsapp for photos and other media, this is going to be a great way for you to save on storage.

Whatsapp has sent out a message explaining the news, which will happen on November 12, 2018. You won’t need to do anything except backup your Whatsapp data if you previously haven’t done so in over a year – otherwise it will be deleted by Whatsapp on this date.

It’s worth noting that since this is an exclusive agreement between Whatsapp and Google, the iOS version of Whatsapp does not apply to this and backups will still be using up your iCloud storage quota.

Who else is a heavy Whatsapp user on Android who is rejoicing over this news, now that your Google Drive storage will be a lot more healthier after November 12?
