Welcome back package, end date reminder for PS3 gamers

How are you feeling PlayStation 3 owners? Are you still enjoying your free games as part of Sony’s Welcome Back Package due to the recent PlayStation Network downtime? If you haven’t redeemed your free games yet, we thought we would remind you that you’ll need to pretty soon.

That’s because some of you may not realise, but Sony’s deal won’t be valid for ever. In fact, the Welcome Back Package is due to expire in a matter of days – July 3rd to be exact according to Sony’s Q&A post over on the official US PS Blog.

That means ladies n gents, that you have around two weeks left to acquire your free swag, be it free PlayStation games, free PSP games, your free months subscription to PlayStation Plus and your extra 30-day subscription to Sony’s music service Qriocity if you’re already a member.

We’re guessing that the July 3rd cut off date will only apply for US and Europe gamers, as those of you living in Asia ie, Hong Kong, will know that Sony has only just switched the PlayStation Network online, so we have a feeling that the Welcome Back Package will last a little bit longer over there.

We recently asked you what your favorite game is within the list that Sony are offering as part of the pack, and we can now reveal the results of our poll. Just like we predicted, the most popular free game is inFAMOUS, followed by LittleBigPlanet and then DeadNation. Those are the three games that we thought would be the most popular, while Wipeout HD combined with the Fury add-on pack is a great deal too.

Those of you with multiple PSN accounts are laughing too, as you can still download two free PS3 and two free PSP games from different region stores, making it possible to get countless free games – how many of you have tried this?

Sony states that the Welcome Back Package icon will simply vanish from the PlayStation Store after the 3rd of July, but we’re hoping that those of you who are yet to activate the free PSN+ subscription can still do so before July 3rd and then enjoy 30 days free beyond that date. It will be pretty harsh if Sony decide to cut everything off on that date.

Overall, we think this was an ideal way for Sony to say sorry for what happened during the downtime. Of course the game selection wasn’t the best, but free games are free games and we don’t think anyone can have any complaints about it. Just to sum up, you guys have until July 3rd to get the free goodies, hit the store now to download. Let us know if you have any problems trying to get the content as we know that sometimes the second free game will not show up.
