Watch the Premier League while you do the weekly shop in Sainsbury’s

Apple’s iPad has been a big success since it was first released and many different uses for the device are now used. But a novel idea is currently being trialed in the UK, and will allow you to watch the Premier League while you do the weekly grocery shop in Sainsbury’s.

The supermarket giant is currently testing a specially adapted shopping trolley in its Cromwell Road branch in Kensington, West London. If the trail proves to be a success it will roll out the service across the country according to The Telegraph.

These special trolleys have an iPad holder fitted to the top with speakers, and the front bumpers have a sensor fitted that will alert shoppers if they get too close to another person or object. To make sure you don’t run out of battery on your iPad there is an onboard battery that also has a self charging solar panel.

This trial is in conjunction with TV broadcaster Sky who developed the trolleys to showcase its Sky Go service. This allows subscribers to watch live sport or news via their mobile devices including the iPad.

Ian Burgess from Setwo Designs, the company that designed the trolleys said “Being able to create a gadget that is practical yet innovative is often a challenge but I think with the trolley we’ve cracked it”. He added the special trolley can also be used in the traditional way, but also stream Sky content easily.

Sainsbury’s thinks the idea will have a commercial impact as it may make shoppers consider visiting the store. Brett Hart from Sainsbury said the company is always looking to make its customers lives easier, which is one reason why they are looking at the new trolleys.

Would the idea of these special trolleys make you want to go to a particular supermarket more?
