Wal-Mart’s Toxic Miley Cyrus Jewelry: Are you worried?

Some worrying news to report to you now, as it has been confirmed that the entire range of Miley Cyrus-brand necklaces and bracelets have been pulled from Wal-Mart’s stores in the U.S.

According to this report from Salon.com, the products were removed after tests confirmed that they contained high levels of toxic metal cadmium.

The big issue here is that while cadmium isn’t actually harmful when worn, young children who come into possession of the jewelry may tend to bite or chew the jewelry – which is obviously a serious risk.

Wal-Mart has pulled the entire product range from their stores and are due to investigate this matter further. A statement from the retailer confirms:

“We are removing all of the jewelry from sale while we investigate its compliance with our children’s jewelry standard.”

Research into cadmium has revealed that long-term exposure could cause bone softening and kidney failure. Worse yet, the metal is also a carcinogen, which means that it could potentially hinder brain development in the very young.

Do you own any Miley Cyrus jewelry? If so, let us know your thoughts on this. We’ll bring you more information when we get it.
