VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat recalls 2.64 million vehicles

We have seen several car recalls throughout 2013, but they do not seem to be as frequent or as high numbers as we have seen a few years back. However, this latest recall has bucked the trend this year because it will affect 2.64 million vehicles in total.

This is not a serious recall and as such is not going to be life threating like some of the others we have seen in the past, but it should not be taken lightly because of the damage it can cause.

The reason why this 2013 car recall is so large is because of the VW Group being responsible for many of its brands sharing the same components. The other reason is because it is not just one recall, but two.

Firstly, we are seeing that the VW Tiguan has an issue with a fuse and as such could keep tripping. The result means that certain light functions could fail. It is an easy fix, as the dealer only has to replace the fuse with a tougher surface coating, which as you know will take just minutes to do.

Around 800,000 vehicles are affected by this recall, but it is the other recall that is more serious.

A discovery was made with VW’s 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox because an electric malfunction may occur due to the use of synthetic gearbox oil. This can become more serious if the vehicle is in a hot and humid climate, and if the vehicle is prone to a lot of stop and go driving.

What makes this issue worse is the fact that it applies to all vehicles from the Volkswagen Group with the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DQ200) filled with synthetic oil, which will affect certain Audi, Skoda and Seat models. Volkswagen will inform those affected by this issue, and will in time have to head to their local dealer to have the oil exchanged for a different type.
