Vodafone circling around RIM?

There has been a lot of news over the last few months about the ailing fortunes of RIM and its BlackBerry range. Last month one of the company’s investors called for a sale of the company if things didn’t improve soon, and that may be about to happen as rumors of Vodafone circling around RIM emerge.

There are rumors now going around the internet that UK mobile carrier Vodafone is about to purchase RIM. BGR are reporting that shares for Research In Motion have risen on the rumors that it is about to be bought up. It’s the second consecutive day that such rumors have been going around, and currently the company hasn’t come out and confirmed or denied the stories.

Yesterday morning saw RIMs share price rise by as much as fourteen percent, as rumors surfaced that Vodafone were thinking of buying the company. Market reports are suggesting that the BlackBerry maker is quickly running out of cash. It spent around fifty percent of its $2.9 billion cash reserves during the second quarter alone.

Many analysts are not convinced that the current management team can steady the ship. There were rumors before that RIM could be about to discontinue the BlackBerry PlayBook, which was quickly denied by the company.

It is thought though that its next generation of smartphones with the QNX operating system may turn things around. These are believed to be the most advanced and powerful devices yet to be released by the manufacturer, who have seen market its share, disappear from Android and the iPhone.

Do you think RIM will be taken over or are they doomed to the history books?
