Verizon still slacking with Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update

We finally have a positive bit of news for Verizon Galaxy S3 owners. Big Red may be taking their time on an official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S3 as they focus on the Droid DNA launch, but you’ll be pleased to know that the underground scene has once again come up with the goods.

A brand new version of Jelly Bean is available to users with custom tools and the even better news is that this could well turn out to be the final build of Jelly Bean that Verizon will officially provide to Galaxy S3 users in the US with an OTA update notification.

The new build has been identified as VRBLK1 and is newer than the VRBLJ1 version that we told you about here in a previous article. Samsung-Updates have provided the new version of Jelly Bean before Verizon has had the chance to release it officially, while the update notes and download links have once again been provided over at the XDA Developer Forums.

It seemed to be just a matter of time before Verizon finally gave Galaxy S3 owners their Jelly Bean update and now that this leaked version has been made public, don’t be surprised if Verizon pushes out the official update by the end of the weekend. Right now, it is only available to those who are rooted and have access to ODIN and an unlocked bootloader.

Is the Jelly Bean update delay on Verizon, enough indication for you to decide that your next Android purchase is going to be a Nexus device? It is almost a normal trend now for consumers to completely bypass the need to wait for official updates when they know that carrier delays are always going to happen with each new version of Android. We see it with the Galaxy S3 at the moment and the same thing will probably happen when Droid DNA users end up waiting longer than expected for the Android 4.2 update to arrive.

Will you be trying this latest version of Jelly Bean for the Verizon Galaxy S3, or are you still happy to let Verizon take their time on the update?
