News of a Verizon iPhone has died down a little over the past couple of weeks, there could be two reasons for this — either the signal problems with the new iPhone 4, or the fact that it is not needed? Big Red customers wanted Apple’s smartphone when they did not have much choice — now they have more choice than ever.
If we were to go back a year, we reported that Verizon did not have any big handsets — so the only smartphone for them was the iPhone. Now that Verizon has stuck a lot of time and effort with Google Android, it seems to be paying off for them.
The latest rumor suggests that the iPhone will come to Verizon in January 2011 and could even be a 4G version. However, Marin Perez from Know Your Cell believes that although the Apple smartphone has huge appeal he states that the nation’s largest carrier does not need the iPhone.
We now wonder if Big Red would ever want the iPhone, the big influx of new customers will tarnish them as the carrier with the best network — something that they are proud of. And why would they want to back the iPhone with its range of current problems and the fact that they will be getting the best Android handset yet — the Motorola Droid X.
AT&T may be putting all their effort into the iPhone, but Verizon is backing Android — not all of their eggs are in one basket. Remember that Google Android is increasing its market share all the time; the gap to the iPhone is closing fast.
