Verizon CES 2011: 4G LTE With GM and ONStar

With CES 2011 about to begin a number of companies have already teased us with a few of their upcoming services, such as GM and Verizon, who will be working together to give the OnStar system LTE 4G broadband access. The Detroit motor company thought that they would show off their Buick LaCrosse with the system instead of wait for the Detroit Auto Show later this month.

We are not certain why GM has fitted the vehicle with a number of cameras to the interior and exterior, but Damon Lavrinc from Autoblog believes that they will be able to be paired to Verizon’s 4Home service. But that’s not the best part of the upcoming system, the car will also be able to integrate itself with Skype for video chat, as well as a unique impact detection system.

We have also learned from Autoblog that General Motors’ OnStar division is set to offer another new device that is all set to make its way to Best Buy stores. The device is an aftermarket rear-view mirror that has OnStar built-in and offers such features as Automatic Crash Response, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Hands-Free Calling and much more.

Translogic has a video of the Buick LaCrosse with a 4G LTE modem from Verizon, which you can see for yourself below. They also report that they will be on hand at CES to give their impressions on the new system. Let us hope that this has been worth the wait.
