Update on Battlefield 3 beta and modding tools issues

With just under four months to go news on Battlefield 3 is now starting to increase, so you will be pleased to know that DICE will be offering us an update on Battlefield 3 beta. Now not much is known about this, so will be the first time that the developer will be handing over what is said to be priceless information. Not only that, but we also have details on modding tools issues.

We can tell you that new details on Battlefield 3 beta will be released in a few weeks time, and is the first major news about the game since E3 back in June. We cannot say for certain when these details will be released, but we do know that DICE will give us something juicy to wet our appetites.

Examiner says that currently the only ones who will receive a beta invitation are those who purchased Medal of Honor. Again, we do not know the fine details so watch this space.

As for those modding tools, we already knew that there is not going to be any, so Gamestar has been talking to Dice for the reason why. The main reason is due to the complexity of Frostbite 2, as modding would be very difficult to implement. It is not just that though, as trying to set up key factors in the game such as destruction and even down to levels would just be too problematic.

DSOGaming does not buy into this for one moment, as they think that DICE should just go ahead and allow for modding of the game, and then just allow modders to do their best — who knows, they could surprise us? If we know anything about modders they can adapt and could rise to the occasion, which would certainly be a benefit to not only the gamer but the developer as well.

Having said that, maybe it is the whole issue of future map packs. If there were mod tools, then future DLCs would come under threat — something that both EA and DICE do not like the idea off. Being able to get something for free would not sit well with DICE, so let us not get confused as to why DICE will not allow modding.

We would like to point out that this is just speculation, but it does make perfect sense when you look at the fact that DICE are not in it for the fans, they are it in for the money.
