Under Armour’s E39 enhance performance vest is electrifying

For those who don’t know, Under Armour is an apparel company founded in 1995. It is responsible for designing moisture absorbing, figure hugging sportswear. The U.S based company continues to offer new products and in 2010 brought out its first line of basketball shoes. Now we have news of its latest offerings, the Under Armour E39 vest.

It is a compression shirt designed for athletes to enhance performance by featuring the usual absorbing fibers that allow wearers to remain as dry as they can, but more significantly, also features a ‘Bug’ sensor. This removable device monitors breathing and heart-rate, with its 2GB of memory, processor and triaxial accelerometer.

Biometric data is recorded so that trainers, coaches and scouts can collect it via Bluetooth on PCs, tablets or smartphones. This data can then potentially be used to improve an athlete’s performance. It provides a more accurate reading that allows for a more detailed analysis of an athlete’s performance than if a coach was just watching. More details about the vest can be found at Wired.

The E39 is not yet available but is to debut at the NFL Combine. A handful of contracted athletes will wear the shirt and after that the shirt must be tested by teams that aren’t contracted to Under Amour, schools and trainers before going on general sale. That means you may not get your hands on one of these for another year. Check out the video below of the E39 in action.

What do you think of the E39? Is it something that you would consider wearing? Let us know your thoughts.
