Ubuntu Linux Running World of Warcraft

There are a number of operating systems out there, choosing the right one is often difficult as each has their own unique qualities. When it comes to value and performance, none can match Ubuntu Linux. To show you just how good this OS is, Cnet News decided to run a little test, by running World of Warcraft.

When we say value, you cannot get any better than free. The operating system is offered free from developers’ Web sites, allowing you to install the software on as many computers as you wish. To put the OS to the test, Cnet thought that they would run one of the most popular installed Windows programs, WoW.

The whole process took under an hour to do, which started with downloading the latest version of Ubuntu, 91.0. Installing the OS is said to be very similar to Windows, so you have to burn a copy on to a CD and then boot the install from the disc. The installer will do all the hard work for you; just remember to choose how much hard drive space you want Linux to use.

Once all is installed, you will need to make certain that you have the correct drivers for your hardware, such as graphics and sound.

Before installing World of Warcraft you will need to install Wine, this only takes s a few seconds so not much hassle at all. Next is the installation of WoW. The easiest way to do this is by copying the whole file from another computer, this will save hours, as the whole file is 20GB in size.

Things are meant to be easy from there, but judging by the article things got a little difficult. To learn more, visit Cnet News.
