When carrying out my upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 I received quite a few error warnings during the installation, most of which related to Flash, at one point it suggested that the install had failed and may result in system instability, sadly the warning messages were very vague and after rebooting my computer and logging in could see wallpaper and a mouse cursor, but nothing else loaded – let me know if you know how to fix this. Update: Logging in as a guest, logging out and then logging in to my profile seemed to work.

After repeated trys Ubuntu 11.10 using Wubi will not install. Ubuntu 11.4 worked just fine and installed with the first try, however Ubuntu 11.10 comes up repeatedly with the  “NTFS5 error”. The computer stops at this point and has to be rebooted. Tried downloads from several mirror sites with the same end result. Also tried both the 32 and 64 versions again with similar results. Puzzling as 11.4 worked flawless lee.

Not even going to try UPGRADING until I can get the bleeding thing to install on virtualbox. Every iso downloaded is corrupt.

Hey,
A similar thing happened to me. I got a vague error message about Flash not installing properly, and it saying that may result in system instability. However, mine booted up fine, except that the sidebar will not appear when the mouse is to the right of the screen. I don’t know if this is correct, but it is quite annoying as I am used to the convenience.
