Children’s cold medicine Tylenol is now being investigated by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. They say that this recent recall needs to be looked into because of its impact to children if they were to take any of this medicine.
The investigation has been launched because the FDA and Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, McNeil Consumer Healthcare have been given conflicting accounts regarding the circumstances over the recall, this includes what prompted the action to recall the medicine and how serious it is.
This is now the third recall of Tylenol products in less than twelve months; as a result the adequacy of FDA’s inspection procedures has now come into question by the committee. When the FDA announced the recall on May 1 they characterized it as precautionary, but this in itself has led to deep concerns.
