Back in February we announced that the Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones application had received a beta 1.1 update, bringing with it a whole host of much-requested features. Well now it appears that BlackBerry has finally decided to give v1.1 an official release.
The new features included in the official v1.1 release are pretty much the same as the features that were included in the beta 1.1 update. As Kirsty C. over at blogs.blackberry.com recently noted, this includes a geotagging feature, which enables users to add a location to their tweets.
If users would prefer not to have their current location displayed on every tweet they send, they can simply turn the Tweet Location feature off. Viewing other people’s current location is simple as well. Selecting the location icon opens a map view, which then shows where someone was when they tweeted.
RIM has also updated the graphics on the Twitter for BlackBerry application, reflecting the new and refreshed Twitter branding. Another great new feature is retweet updates, which alerts users that their retweets were successfully sent by displaying ‘Retweeted by You in their Home timeline.
Version 1.1 also brings additional language support, including Thai, Czech, traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese and Polish. Do you currently use the Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones application?
