Turtle Beach Xbox One Headset Adapter not ready for launch

If you were hoping to use your current generation headset with the Xbox One at launch, then you will be slightly disappointed today after Turtle Beach revealed their Xbox One Headset Adapter wouldn’t be available on the consoles release date.

This news comes following what gamers previously thought was confirmation of support at the Xbox One console launch. The U-turn has taken place with some confusion and CVG reached out to Turtle Beach for an explanation.

It seems some new headsets from Turtle Beach, the XO SEVEN and XO FOUR, will not support the Xbox One proprietary data port by default and need a third party adapter, which is being created by Microsoft and Turtle Beach.

The clarification also revealed a delay in the new headset launch to Q1 2014, and that the adapters would be included in the XO SEVEN and XO FOUR headset boxes.

Have a read of the CVG article for full details, but in a nutshell it looks like Microsoft have complete control over third-party Xbox One headsets thanks to a Microsoft-produced adapter being compulsory.

When it comes to the PS4, as far as we can tell new headsets will support the console from launch out-of-the-box.
