A recent article in the Los Angeles Times suggests that more than 100 deaths have been linked to Toyota’s unintended acceleration issue. If true, then this is double the amount that we had first thought. LA Times came up with this result by studying public records.
Autoblog explains that the amount of vehicles being recalled is now reaching record numbers — with complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) over sudden acceleration increasing rapidly.
By studying police reports, LA Times were able to establish that as many as 102 deaths were caused by sudden, unintended acceleration. These latest findings have now seen thorough evaluation of each death that has involved a recalled Toyota.
This is certainly not good news for the Japanese automaker, which has rarely been out of the news in 2010. The feds have now stepped and will report their findings to the government, which is when congress will make a decision in the ongoing case against Toyota.
