Toyota Recall: New broader recall covers more vehicles

Japanese automaker, Toyota has had to broaden its recall to include more models over the current accelerator pedal fault. The company acknowledged that it is a more wide-ranging problem than they first thought and is to now include 2.3 million vehicles.

The original vehicle recall was already the largest ever, which could now have a serious effect on its reputation. Toyota has always been known as a market leader when it comes to quality and safety, its U.S. sales could be damaged by this latest development.

According to Reuters, the Japanese carmaker insists that this latest recall has nothing to do with its previous mechanical fault with their vehicles last year. This is a separate issue to the recent accelerator pedal incident, which could become trapped under the floor mats.

Some of the models that are included in this latest recall are the, 2009 and 2010 RAV4, Corolla and Matrix. Also included are the 2007 to 2010 Camry and Tundra, 2010 Highlander, 2005 to 2010 Avalon and finally the 2008 to 2010 Sequoia.

Toyota has been looking into this problem for some time now and found that the accelerator pedals could stick even when the depressed slightly, it would often return to its normal position slowly. One of the main factors is due to a worn pedal mechanism.
