Toyota Recall List of 2010 Models: Suspension of sales

Toyota did not have a great end to 2009 following a number of vehicle recalls, it looks as thought 2010 will start off the same as well. The Japanese carmaker has now suspended sales of eight of its models due to continued problems with gas pedals, which we discussed a few days ago.

How long sales will be suspended is still to be determined, said Toyota Canada Inc. spokeswoman Sandi Di Felice. She added that drivers should not panic, as the current issue with the gas pedal is a rare one and it take time for the problem to occur.

This latest suspension from Toyota is on top of the already 270,000 vehicle recalls in Canada and last years 2.3 million recalls, also to do with an accelerator pedal problem. The latter was an easy fix; all you had to do was remove the floor mate, not a long-term solution, but one that stopped the pedal from sticking.

This latest issue with the gas pedal is more serious as it can often stick in a position or takes its time returning to its normal resting position. According to the Montreal Gazette, there have been five incidents where the gas pedal malfunctioned.

The vehicles that have been affected by this recall are as follows:

  • 2005-2010 Avalon
  • 2007-2010 Tundra
  • 2008-2010 Sequoia
  • 2009-2010 Corolla
  • 2009-2010 Matrix
  • 2009-2010 RAV4
  • 2010 Highlander
  • Certain 2007-2010 Camry
