You may have read the news earlier today about Toyota’s recall for January 2010, which covers a broader range of vehicles but this has been reported to not include Canada, although a recall has been issued in Canada as well.
Canada.com are reporting that Toyota Canada is asking owners of the Tundras, Camrys, and other models to return their vehicles to dealers. They insist that these Canadian vehicles are not subject to the problems reported with jammed-accelerators in the United States.
The recall in Canada comes after an investigation by Transport Canada and Toyota, which will involve over 200,000 vehicles. The models affected include 2007 and newer Tundras, Camrys, and Lexus ES 350s, 2006 and newer Lexus IS 230s and 350s, 2005 and newer Tacomas and Avalons, and lastly 2004 to 2009 Priuses.
These vehicles will have a brake override system installed, apart from some that may have the floor reconfigured below the pedal. All vehicles will have the accelerator pedal reconfigured by Toyota.
You can read what Toyota Canada said in a statement over on Canada.com. They report that repairs should start by April 2010.
