Toyota Prius Recalls: Lawsuits list could cost company more than $3 billion

It has been reported that following on from the Toyota Recall Saga affecting models like the Prius, impending lawsuits from Toyota owners could end up costing the auto maker more than $3 billion.

As reported from Associated Press, there is a list of around 89 class-action lawsuits that have been filed by Toyota owners – as a result of the cash value drop of their vehicles after the recall was first announced.

This is thought to be comprised of around 6 million individual cases for Toyota to deal with, which could all add up to be very costly. It is important to point out that this is entirely separate to other payouts that Toyota could have to make – as a result of wrongful death or injury lawsuits.

It is thought that a judge is currently deciding whether these lawsuits can all be brought together into a single legal action – known as “certifying a class”.
