Today is the birthday of Theodor (Dr.) Seuss Geisel, and was the author of a number of top children’s books. In his time he published 44 books, and we are pleased to say that some of them are available as apps. In celebration of his birthday — where is the Google Doodle — a number of developers decided to make more books available to read on the iPad, iPod Touch and the iPhone.
The first universal iOS app is called You’re Only Old Once and costs just $2.99. The book can be read in three ways, the first is by it being narrated to you, the second is to read it yourself, and finally autoplay. The last one will be the best for young children, as this reads the book and you get to see animated pages turning over.
The Cat in the Hat has to be one of the most famous, so you will be pleased to know that there is a lite app. The only issue with this is that only the first 10 pages of the book are available to read. However, there are a number of paid versions to choose, which you can see for yourself over on App Shopper.
If I had to choose my favorite Dr. Seuss book for children, then it would have to be How The Grinch Stole Christmas! Again, this app costs $2.99, but is a small price to pay to make for an enjoyable bedtime story. There is a narrated version, but we bet Sir Antony Hopkins does not do it, as it he did in the big movie?
