Toasted Skin Syndrome: Should laptop makers be accountable?

Yesterday we reported about the case of a 12-year-old boy who suffered from a condition called “Toasted Skin Sydrome”, which was caused by having a laptop on his skin for hours at a time. We all know how hot a laptop gets, and I would never have one on my lap with nothing on my legs for a prolonged amount of time.

You can be certain that there will be parents out there who will feel like this is a case to be taken to the courts to try to get compensation from the laptop maker. However, I do not think that the likes of Dell, Sony, Toshiba etc should not be accountable — what parent would allow their child to sit with a hot item on their lap for any number of hours?

It is no secret that children do not listen to their parents most of the time, but something is wrong when they are up in their room or anywhere else in the house with a hot laptop on their lap, and the parents not thinking that this isn’t right.

We know that it is a sad case when someone suffers from “Toasted Skin Sydrome”, but this is self-inflicted and negligent on both the child and the parent.

Who do you think is to blame for this condition?
