Titanfall is Respawn Entertainment’s Xbox console exclusive

If you were wondering what has happened to the ex-Infinity Ward staffers who recently left Activision to form Respawn Entertainment, it looks like the first game is going to be blown wide open at E3 2013. However, the key details have already leaked earlier thanks to Game Informer, as we now know the game will be called Titanfall and will be a Xbox console exclusive.

You heard that correctly. The first game from the creators of Modern Warfare are bringing their game to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles, and also PC. There will not be a PS3 or PS4 version of the game and it now confirms that EA has indeed signed into an agreement with Microsoft as previously speculated.

We hear that Respawn Entertainment will be making the Xbox One and PC versions of the game, but will hand over the Xbox 360 version to a different developer. The reasoning so far behind the PlayStation snub aside from obvious financial reasons, is that Respawn Entertainment wanted to “just focus on one console and focus on making the best game that they could”.

All the details have come from the latest issue of Game Informer, which have turned up prematurely over at Neogaf where the details have been made public before Microsoft’s E3 2013 press conference. It looks like Titanfall is going to feature mech gameplay and will focus entirely on the multiplayer aspect of the game and make heavy use of cloud capabilities.

The general ‘vibe’ of the game is thought to bear similarities with the film District 9, which is particularly exciting from our point of view as we loved that film. The release date is going to happen during Spring of 2014, but expect EA and Respawn to confirm this at E3 in a few days time.

Read more information over at Neogaf and tell us your instant thoughts on Titanfall. Are you surprised that there will not be a PS3 or PS4 version of the game? A mech FPS in the mould of Call of Duty is going to be one to look out for without doubt.
