Threema app reviews Vs Whatsapp for security

By now you would have heard about Facebook’s monumental purchase of Whatsapp, in which the company has bought out the popular messaging app for a staggering $19 billion USD. The purchase has provoked a mixed response, notably from those who are worried about the future privacy and security of Whatsapp with Facebook in charge.

With this in mind, consumers have already begun looking for an alternative to Whatsapp and it appears that one has been found with the new Threema app for iPhone and Android.

Threema is an app that works in a similar way to Whatsapp, but with the added promise of encryption between messages. Its key feature compared to Whatsapp is putting the security of users at first priority, with the app claiming to offer not only end-to-end encryption of text messages, but also encryption on images, videos and GPS locations too.

Another great little feature that we have found will allow users to verify a contact’s public keys, simply by scanning a QR code from their mobile device – all performed inside the app.

Threema has been developed by a Swiss team at Kasper Systems GmbH, but we can already tell you that the app is gaining massive popularity over in Germany. It appears that German fans in particular are not happy about the potential security risks of Whatsapp and are looking for a new app that can offer that added level of saftey when sending messages.

Threema offers complete encryption between messages.

We can tell you that initial Threema app reviews on the Google Play Store and App Store already suggest that the app could go on to be a massive success. Here is one example of what one happy user had to say about the potential of Threema:

“Elegant and secure From what I can tell, Threema has done everything right. It’s fast, stable, provides the all-important read receipts, and is utterly secure. Privacy is paramount in today’s world and these guys nailed it.”

The app is not free, but we have a feeling that most of you will be willing to pay once you realize that this is an excellent Whatsapp alternative with security featured as a priority.

Download the Threema app now on Android or iPhone and let us know how you get on with it. For those that have already tried it, would you say that it is better than Whatsapp or not?
