Mobile network Three UK has altered their tethering tariffs for new customers, no longer offering unlimited use on their all you can eat data plans. Three has now changed their tariffs so that new users are restricted to 2 GB of tethering data, opposed to unrestricted amounts.
The ‘One Plan’ gives users access to unlimited 3G or 4G data, plus the ability to share this connection with your other devices. Out of all of the major UK networks Three is the only one to offer truly unlimited data with no fair usage policy, also the only provider to upgrade customers from 3G to 4G free of charge.
Unfortunately now Three has reportedly turned the tables and new customers signing up to the network will not be able to enjoy unlimited tethering on their plans. Instead users will be given 2 GB to consumers with a view to purchasing more data in 1 GB blocks. Three has however included free calls to 0800 numbers though to make up for the change in some way.
Three has confirmed that whilst tethering is being reduced from unlimited to restricted, it is being added to more plans to cover a wider range of users. Luckily the all you can eat data plans on 3G and 4G contracts will remain as they are, if these were changed then mass hysteria would really break out.
This news will come as a blow to consumers planning to get a new smartphone or tablet soon, or even existing customers whose contracts are coming to an end. We are assuming that people already signed up to the unlimited tethering deal will have this service honored and then will have to re-negotiate their plan when the contract comes up for renewal with Three.
