Thomas Edison Google Doodle: His Inventions

For those of you who visit the Google homepage at some stage today, you will notice that there is a second Doodle of the week; today’s one is celebrating Thomas Edison’s 164th birthday. On the logo today are a few of the inventions from the famous inventor, including the light bulb.

This is not an interactive Google Doodle like the Jules Verne one from a few days ago, but there are still moving images, one of which is the light bulb glowing on and off. Take a look by visiting the search engine homepage and see if you can list his other inventions on the logo.

The inventor is always for the one invention that was used the most, in this case it was the incandescent light bulb. However, some of you might not know that he did not event this; according to About he merely improved its design. Another invention that Edison was famous for was the tin foil phonograph; he did not start out to come up with this device, it was something he stumbled upon. The website also has full details of his other great inventions.

Jeff Rutherford has an interesting article on his website, which looked at what would Thomas Edison be working on if he were alive today; we were shocked when social networking was mentioned. The reason behind this was because he was known for building up friendships in order to learn from them; this applied to the people he worked with as well. Who knows, maybe he could have come up with Facebook?

He started out working in a factory and dreamed of the day when he could become his own boss; That happened back in 2002 and he has never looked back since. Things have changed so much on the Internet in that time, but he has adapted well.
