When Polish video game developer CD Projekt RED first revealed the possibility of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings heading to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in November last year, they said they wouldn’t consider it until after the game had launched for the PC. It doesn’t look like they wasted too much time however, as the Xbox 360 version was officially announced earlier this month.
George Reith from the gamingbolt.com website believes that if the developer wants the game to be as a big a hit with console owners as it has among PC gamers, then there possibly needs to be a few changes made to the Xbox 360 version. For example, George says that there should be a better synopsis of the story so far, in order for console players to be brought up to speed with the goings on of the original game.
The Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings could also do with swifter pacing in George’s opinion. There are times throughout the game when things do tend to slow right down and while PC gamers might not mind this, console owners might have a difference of opinion. Another point George makes is about the game’s difficulty level, and that the console version should perhaps have a more helpful tutorial.
The Witcher 2 seems to throw its players right in at the deep end, expecting them to know exactly how the game should be played. This is where a more helpful tutorial or a change in difficulty level would come in handy for Xbox 360 owners. George says that although The Witcher 2 game’s combat is deep and engaging for the most part, it could still do with a wider variety of skills and items.
Although the Xbox 360 controller input works quite well, the options don’t necessarily feel as symmetrical as the keyboard and mouse control scheme. Therefore an option to completely customize your control scheme for the Xbox 360 controller should be a must for the console version. Another possible change is to have a more detailed mini-map, which needs to be made clearer and easier to read.
You can read what other changes George feels need to be made to the Xbox 360 version via the gamingbolt.com website. Although we still don’t have a release date yet, we do know that the console version is due to arrive later this year. Will you be buying the game for the Xbox 360? If so, do you think there needs to be changes?
