The Last Of Us movie in the pipeline

When a videogame like The Last Of Us becomes a hit within the gaming community questions will be asked about whether this would make a good movie. With news emerging that Screen Gems has signed on to distribute a live-action adaptation of the hit title we can see how certain elements within the game would be well-portrayed on the big screen.

Survival horrors are quite popular as both films and videogames and The Last Of Us has the kind immersive action that could make this a success. In an article on Deadline Hollywood they discuss the PlayStation 3 exclusive as a videogame adaptation and that the creative director, Neil Druckmann will be on board to pen the script.

In addition, Naughty Dog co-presidents Christophe Balestra and Evan Wells will be at hand to deal with the creative side teaming up with The Last Of Us director Bruce Straley as well as Druckmann. The game has won multiple awards and has sold well, therefore, Screen Gems had this brought to their attention by company members Brian Dukes and Eric Ling.

They admit the storytelling was of a certain quality and that the audience for this could be stretched further than an exclusive gaming community, giving them reason to looking into making a film adaptation.

In other news, a couple of weeks back we spoke about a sequel and the chance that The Last of Us 2 has given us new hope that another visit into the world of Joel and Ellie is a distinct possibility. We mentioned how gamers are currently looking forward to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 release date and highlighted the success of both franchises.

Creative director of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley were recently asked about whether a Last of Us sequel would be on the cards the answer from Druckmann was “right now I’d say it’s 50/50.” This is great news for fans of the game who feel a sequel would also be a success.

With the possibility of a sequel in the future and an upcoming movie we feel more pressure needs to be put on the sequel from gamers to up the fifty-fifty ratio, however, we are now getting the impression The Last Of Us movie is in the pipeline. So we thought we would ask our readers what they think. What would you like to see first a game sequel or a film adaptation?
