The Fappening leads to Apple celeb account news

The last day in August 2014 has been named The Fappening, which involves revealing celebrity photos being leaked online and resulted in an Apple investigation as well. In fact, Apple has issued a press statement in relation to this leak that has its own urban name now.

We’ve seen Twitter continually trending hashtag TheFappening, which is also a result of a photo leak of such massive proportions. We’ve seen accounts taken down for posting these copyrighted photos, including that gained nearly 20,000 followers in a matter of hours.

There’s said to be hundreds of thousands of people visiting a Reddit page dedicated to The Fappening, and in fact that very page keeps going into a “Read Only” mode thanks to such high traffic. We haven’t seen Reddit go down, but The Fappening page has reportedly stopped working at certain times today.

Apple update on Celebrity Photo Investigation – we’ve included a screenshot of Apple’s press statement below, which only released a few hours ago in relation to iCloud security and recommendations for password security when using their online services.

It has been made clear by Apple that “celebrity accounts were compromised” by an attack that targeted security questions, passwords, and user names. Are you happy with the way Apple took action right away to investigate the issue?
