Tesla Model S car fire spurs Model X design change

The Tesla Model S car fire that happened a few days ago has sparked huge issues for the company (excuse the pun), as they have had to endure seeing its stock price fall dramatically. We don’t see the fire as the main reason for falling stock prices because they were inflated anyway, although this was the perfect catalyst to see them fall to a more reasonable level.

Unsurprisingly, Tesla CEO has defended the Model S, where he said the design of the EV helped contain the fire, and fires are far more common with conventional gas-powered vehicles.

We said the other day that there will now be a witch-hunt by those who oppose electric vehicles, which we said was wrong because the fire would have been so much worse if it had been a gasoline car. Having said that, there is still a worry with the design because of a metal object being able to cause damage to one of the batteries.

According to the Free Beacon, they report that an analyst said the fire will no doubt spur Tesla to make a design change to the Model X, which as we know is a crossover version of the Model S due for launch next year, as well as the Gen 3 models.

It is always good to take a positive from this; we just hope the public believes in Tesla. The problem here is that Tesla only has electric vehicles, unlike its rivals.

Let us not forget the Model S has a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, which as we know is very hard to achieve. In normal circumstances the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration would be keeping a close eye on the situation, and if they feel the need, they would be talking to Tesla Motors about what they plan to do.

However, with the US Government shutdown the NHTSA is one of the agencies affected, and so will not be able to intervene, or issue any recalls for that matter.
