Tekken 7 release before Tekken X Street Fighter

It seems a long time ago since we were playing Street Fighter X Tekken, a game that was promised alongside the opposite crossover with Tekken X Street Fighter. Now it looks like the game may be in doubt further as we have just had the confirmation of Tekken 7 prematurely.

EVO 2014 is coming up this week and it looks like one of the big announcements has been spoiled by IGN. The website has posted a video early confirming Tekken 7 is on the way – you can see the logo as evidence below taken from the video before it was prompted removed.

Surprisingly, it also looks like Tekken 7 is still on the way to PS3 and Xbox 360. We would have presumed that the next mainstream Tekken 7 game would be next-gen only on PS4 and Xbox One but obviously we will have to wait for Tekken 8 to see that.

We can also tell you that Tekken 7 will be built on the Unreal Engine 4, a decision that producer Katsuhiro Harada says will help produce excellent results in terms of graphics for next-gen platforms.

Where does this leave the status of Tekken X Street Fighter though, a game that was announced in 2010 but has hardly been seen by the public other than a single image of Ryu.

As you can imagine, gamers are fearing the worst already and we can see that there has already been feedback from some who say that this now means that Tekken X Street Fighter could be cancelled.

Remember that Tekken 7 may not release until 2015, so where would that leave Tekken X Street Fighter? Surely it is too long to wait for the game now. Perhaps one way of doing it is to release Tekken 7 but with guest characters from Street Fighter to make up for any possible cancellation.

What is your reaction to Tekken 7 and your thoughts on the status of Tekken X Street Fighter? Official announcement coming soon.
