Tata Motors has been studying what makes the Maruti Wagon R so popular because they plan to launch a rival vehicle, but the key factor is getting the price right. However, Tata already has one hurdle covered, and that is by basing this new model on the X0 platform.
The Maruti Wagon R price is very competatvie, which is why the company has had great success, as has Datsun with the Go. Tata must beat their prices, but they cannot afford to make it so cheap that they make a sub-par car that Indian drivers do now want.
We have seen Tata do something very similar in the past, as the Bolt is based on the Vista, although they have implemented new technology, and so the upcoming Maruti Wagon R rival will do the very same.
News of the new, small vehicle comes at the expense of a Nano diesel, which never seemed like a popular move anyway. It is far better to come up with a new vehicle based on a platform that the Indian market has embraced.
Like we said above, the cost of development for this Maruti Wagon R and Datsun Go rival will not be as much for Tata because the tools are already in place. This is because they can make use of the same engine platform, such as a small 1.4-liter and a TDi diesel option, something the rivals don’t currently offer.
According to the source, they believe this new Tata Motors vehicle set to rival the Wagon R and Go could be between Rs. 3-3.5 lakh.
