We have known for years that long-term tanning bed use is not good for you, as a result dermatologists and researchers have been lobbying with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration panel to impose restrictions on indoor tanning. This Panel has advised the FDA that people under the age of 18 should not use these tanning beds.
UPI.com reports that certain members of the FDA said that the idea of a ban was good, but would be very hard to implement. Instead they advised that indoor tanning beds should come with stronger warnings as well as parental consent, according to ABC TV News
Tanning beds use ultraviolet lamps, as a result are considered class I medical devices, but the FDA are able to change this at any time. Long term exposure to tanning beds is just like sun bathing, so can cause skin cancer.
This form of cancer is one of the worst, but it is also the only one that can be easily prevented. Remember to read the safety notice that comes with the tanning bed, it is ok looking nice and tanned now, just think how horrible your skin will look as you get older.
