T-Mobile to get Galaxy S II and HTC Amaze 4G next month

While T-Mobile waits to see if the proposed takeover by AT&T goes ahead, the carrier is still attempting to please its customers by offering new handsets. The iPhone 5 is not thought to be coming to the carrier until next year so it will have to concentrate on the Android platform for now. T-Mobile has announced it is to get Galaxy S II and HTC Amaze 4G next month.

The news of the two handsets was announced by the carrier yesterday at the GigaOM Mobilize conference. According to InformationWeek chief marketing officer, Cole Brodman, said the two handsets will be launching on the carriers 4G network.

He said that customers who purchase either of the devices can expect average download speeds of 8Mbps, and going up to a maximum of 20Mbps. Brodman added that “Our research shows almost every U.S. consumer wants a smartphone”.

The two smartphones are scheduled to be available to customers on October 12th, and whether this will be enough to please its subscribers remains to be seen. Brodman wouldn’t reveal if there were any new developments with the AT&T deal, but remained confident it would eventually go through. When questioned about the iPhone 5 he said the carrier would like to offer it to its customers, but wouldn’t confirm or deny a deal with Apple.

HTCs Amaze 4G is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor running Android 2.3.4, and has an 8-megapixel camera that can capture 1080p video. T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II uses a similar processor running Android 2.3.5, and has a 4.52-inch AMOLED Plus display.

The HTC Amaze 4G will cost customers $259.99 after a $50 rebate with T-Mobile’s Classic voice and data plan, and with a 24 month contract. While the Samsung Galaxy S II will cost $229.99 with the same agreement.

Will be getting either of these handsets or are you holding out for the iPhone 5?
