T-Mobile jealousy as smaller US carriers get iPhone 4S

When the latest iPhone model was released a couple of weeks ago Sprint customers were pleased to hear they could finally get their hands on the device. Out of the major carriers in the US only T-Mobile were left without official access to the iPhone. Now we have news that may make T-Mobile users jealous as smaller US carriers get hold of the iPhone 4S.

C Spire Wireless a small regional US carrier that has less than one million users have revealed today it will offer its customers the iPhone 4S soon. According to AppleInsider it will be the first small carrier in the country to get hold of the iPhone.

The carrier is similar to both Sprint and Verizon who use CDMA technology, and will now become the fourth carrier to officially provide the new iPhone. C Spire updated its website to announce the news, and has a page dedicated to all the new features the smartphone offers including the Siri personal assistant.

Customers of the carrier can register their interest by providing email addresses and mobile numbers, so they will receive more information when it becomes available. This is the first time Apple has provided its smartphone for a smaller regional carrier to officially offer the iPhone.

CEO Tim Cook has previously revealed plans by the company to push sales of its flagship device even further. At the company’s quarterly conference call he said “We want the iPhone to be in as many customers’ hands as possible because we think it’s the greatest phone by far”. The company feels the iPhone 4S will be the most successful iPhone yet.

T-Mobile’s 3G service relies on the rarely used 1700MHz and 2100MHz bands which are not supported by the iPhone currently. Those who have decided to use an unlocked iPhone on the T-Mobile network have to make do with slower EDGE data speeds.
