Surprise PS Vita event needs to impress

It turns out that the Sony PS4 event isn’t the only thing to get excited about this week for PlayStation fans. Sony has also confirmed that a somewhat surprise PS Vita presentation is happening in Japan, during the afternoon direct from Japan. Sony hasn’t revealed what exactly they will be showing off, but it goes without saying that the handheld with a lot of potential is in serious need of some quality games and further third-party developer support.

The good news, is that just like Sony’s PS4 event on Wednesday, you’ll be pleased to hear that the PS Vita web presentation is also going to be live streamed as well, meaning that you can tune into the event and watch any new game announcement and trailers live. The event is starting on Monday at 5pm Japanese time, so that is 8am for everyone in UK and the early hours for those planning to stay up in the US.

Just what can we expect to see though? There’s rumors that a PS Vita price cut may be on the way, but we think it is still far too early for Sony to even consider that. There’s also whispers that a 4G PS Vita model will release in 2013 and that is something that is a lot more likely to happen, giving the premium Vita a lot more incentive compared to the rather useless 3G model.

Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, Kingdom Hearts, Battlefield. Four titles that would be amazing on the PS Vita hardware, but how likely is it that we will see even one announced on Monday’s event – not very promising we have to say. Sony must know that they need to do better in the games department though and why else would they be having yet another of these web presentations?

Something tells us that 2013 is still going to turn out to be a good year for all PS Vita owners. Let us know what you think of the current situation at the moment and what games you need to see to get your attention once again. Tune into the PS Vita live stream later here.

Update: Sony introduced a PS Vita price cut for Japan at the event, at last! Also, some new but brief details on Final Fantasy X HD for the PS Vita also emerged. Look forward to a full recap soon.
