Surface RT refresh, processor upgrade before Pro 2

There’s been a lot of speculation as to what we can expect from the Surface Pro 2, although it’s worth remembering that the device was only released in February in the US and Canada, and so could be a while before we get to see a sequel. With this in mind, it’s obvious that there is now talk of a Surface RT refresh, although this is rather confusing for obvious reasons.

News that Microsoft would offer a Surface RT refresh is certainly a strange one, especially when you consider that this particular version of the Surface device has not been as popular as Microsoft would have hoped, although we’re sure these proposed changes would go a long way in resolving this.

One if the issues with the current RT is its processor, as it makes use of an NVIDIA Tegra chip, so news that the Surface RT could come with a faster performing Snapdragon 800 LTE CPU is welcome news for those who were hoping for a bit more performance.

Having said that, the CPU could also make a showing in other Surface devices, as reported by The Verge; this could mean the rumored 7-inch Surface tablet or even a Surface smartphone, although this is just a wild rumor at the moment.

If there was to be an improved Surface RT with the Snapdragon 800 processor then it would be a much fairer fight when compared against the iPad, although it will be interesting to see just what the iPad 5 has to offer when released later this year?

While sales of the Surface RT have been a little low, it’s a different story for the Surface Pro. Okay, sales were also slow at first but this is because of two main factors, the first was because Microsoft was having trouble producing enough stock, and secondly because the device had a limited release, but this was rectified last month, as most countries in Europe can now get the Surface Pro, along with Asian countries as well.
