Surface Mini release date still on for 2014

Microsoft may have just finished shipping the lovely Surface Pro 3 to those that pre-ordered day one, but it appears that attention has now shifted to the Microsoft Surface Mini release which some of you may have thought was cancelled.

It is definitely not cancelled though, as we can tell you that Microsoft may still have plans to release a Surface Mini in 2014. In an embarrassing slip up, the company has inadvertently officially name dropped the Surface Mini in the official Surface Pro 3 manual.

If you have been following the Surface Pro 3 release bandwagon, you may held on to the hope that the Surface Pro 3 announcement would be joined by a smaller version.

It appears that this may have been Microsoft’s initial plan too, before they had a sudden change of heart. Below is the extract from the manual which shows you Microsoft’s intentions for users to also be able to use a Surface Mini alongside the Pro 3.

The big question is whether the Mini is still on the way, or if Microsoft has gone back to the drawing board. It’s no secret that there would be a big demand for a smaller version though, one that would offer a cheaper price at retail too.

We love the Surface Pro 3, but it may be overpriced in many consumer’s minds – a Surface Mini could be the perfect answer to that, dropping some of the Pro features to bring the price down.

Perhaps Microsoft just need to see some love from the community before giving the project a green light. Would you be willing to buy a Surface Mini from Microsoft if it became available? Let us know what kind of functionality you would want to see to seal the deal.
