Super powerful Xbox 720 and PS4 coming in two years

Rumors of the next generation of home gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft have been going for a while now, but since the Wii U was announced at E3 they have intensified. Now today we have rumors that super powerful Xbox 720 and PS4 could be coming in two years.

We recently told you about Microsoft planning to reveal the next Xbox at next year’s E3 event with a possible 2013 launch. This will fit in with what programmer John Carmack has been telling Eurogamer, who predicts new consoles from Sony and Microsoft are likely to “be here in a couple of years”.

Recent evidence has hinted that Microsoft was already developing their next Xbox console, but it is thought to be in the very early stages. On the other hand you have Sony who continues to say that the PS3 has a ten year lifespan.

Carmack also stated he thinks that the next generation of consoles will be ten times as powerful. But the thing is will they be needed? Developers are only just realizing the full potential of the PS3 after spending five years with it, and will gamers be willing to fork out vast sums of money for another console so soon?

With the PlayStation 3 in mind, one of its major problems at launch was the cost of it. Early sales of the console suffered due to the high cost and have only recently started turning things around. But it is highly likely that Sony won’t want to be left behind again when the next gen console wars begin.

When do you think we will see the next generation of Xbox and PS3?
