There are so many ways where you can stream media to your games console, but which of them offers the best solution? There are three games consoles in the mainstream, the Sony PS3, Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360, and all will behave different with a media server solution.
The PS3 Media Server is open-source and is perfect for gamers looking to stream content across a network. The latest version of this software is ready to use and requires no codec to install. You do not have to do any configuration; all your folders can be browsed directly from your PlayStation 3. More details on this can be found via Google Code.
The best software for media streaming on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is Orb — this also works for the Nintendo Wii as well. Orb makes it possible to stream media from your PC to your Xbox 360 or Wii — currently you can transfer certain files without the need for fancy add-ons, but certain files will need something like Orb. There are other solutions on the market, but Orb is considered to be one of the best and easiest to use.
If you use any other media streaming software please let us know what, and why you use it.
